This One's On Me
Peter Straker, 1978. Album produced by Freddie Mercury.
Two singles were released: 'Ragtime Joe' b/w 'Saddest Clown'; and 'Jackie' b/w 'I've Been To Hell And Back'

The full LP track listing is as follows:
Ada, I've Been To Hell And Back, The Day The Talkies Came, Heart Be Still, Alabama Song, Ragtime Piano Joe, Jackie, The Annual Penguin Show, The Saddest Clown, Vamp

In addition to the album there are also at least two further tracks produced by Freddie - '
Black Swan' and 'Tear Down The Walls' - I am not sure where these tracks come from.

The Queen bootleg 'Pre Ordained' contains six of these tracks: '
Black Swan', 'Heart Be Still', 'I've Been To Hell And Back', 'Tear Down The Walls', 'The Day The Talkies Came' and 'Vamp'. However they are in poor quality, slightly too slow, and the volume level alternates. These tracks don't give a balanced impression of the album - partly due to the poor quality, and also the selection of tracks; apart from 'I've Been To Hell And Back' and 'The Day The Talkies Came', the rest are the weaker tracks from the album.

Ada
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 0:35
Lyrics:
Ada
Ada
Oh, the girl me call Ada
Oh, the girl me call Ada
Oh, the girl me call Ada the girl wouldn't speak at all

Alabama Song
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 4:04
This song was later recorded by David Bowie, and reached no 23 in 1980.
Lyrics:
Oh, show us the way to the next whisky bar
Oh, don't ask why, oh, don't ask why
For we must find the next whisky bar
For if we don't find the next whisky bar
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you, I tell you
I tell you we must die

Oh, moon of Alabama, we now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have whisky, oh, you know why

Oh, moon of Alabama, we now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have whisky, oh, you know why

Oh, show us the way to the next pretty girl
Oh, don't ask why, oh, don't ask why
For we must find the next pretty girl
For if we don't find the next pretty girl
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you, I tell you
I tell you we must die

Oh, moon of Alabama we now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have girls, oh, you know why

Oh, moon of Alabama we now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have girls, oh, you know why

Oh, show us the way to the next little dollar
Oh, don't ask why, oh, don't ask why
For we must find the next little dollar
For if we don't find the next little dollar
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you, I tell you
I tell you we must die

Oh, moon of Alabama we now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have, you know why

Oh, moon of Alabama we now must say goodbye (goodbye)
We've lost our good old mama
And must have whisky or your know why, you know why, you know why, you know why, you know why, you know why, you know why, you know why, you know why, you know why, you know why

Black Swan
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 5:17
This track doesn't appear on the 'This One's On Me' LP with the other tracks; I am unsure where the track comes from.
Lyrics:
Deeper and deeper
Darker and darker
Into the night I saw above the clouds
Moving like lightning, smiling, jeering
The midnight neon beckons me underground

The black swan glides, glittering, preening
Feathers a fluff, like a giant powder puff
Settles down, head held high
Venus is my love
Venus is my love

Deeper and deeper
Darker and darker
The bitch's depended scream obscenities
They wait, bemused, the hustles follow
Excited crowds, as one they holler

I see a monster, seeping, creeping
Arms akimbo like a flying makimba
I encountered my heroes eyes, I blushed
Venus is my love
Venus is my love

Medusa, Fusella, scream
Allow me the pleasure
I am, I am the devil in the sky

It's part of a way of life
It's life is between agony and ecstacy
They say love is for the very young

Deeper and deeper
Darker and darker
I feel the needs must be to fly

The black swan smiles, glittering, preening
Feathers are sleek, and staring all it seeks
Languidly glides into the night
Venus is my love
Venus is my love

(Ad-libs/improvisation to the end)

Heart Be Still
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 4:06
Lyrics:
Baby, my heart is breaking
And there's no hope, no hope inside
The sky is an ocean of darkness, ooh
No-one, no-one, no-one to hold me in the long lonely night

(Tell me) how can I, how can I forget you
Oh, how can I go to sleep
When I know that I love you
I love you and always will

(Heart be still) heart be still
(Heart be still) heart be still
(Heart be still) heart be still
(Heart be still) oh yes

When you, when you are lonely
And you're feeling so blue
Think of (think of) the true love
I gave to you
You know, baby you don't know
I gave my love, my arms are, they're waiting

(Come home) come home
(Come home) come home
(Come home) oh, come home
My arms are waiting

(Heart) heart be still now
(Heart be still) maybe, maybe, she'll come back
(Heart) oh, if you ever want me, if you ever need me
(Heart be still) listen, listen, ohh

(Heart be still) heart......
(Heart be still)
(Heart)
(Heart be still)

(Heart be still) oh be still, oh yes
(Heart be still) ah, ah, ah
My arms are waiting

Ah, ha, ha, ha, ha, haaa
Ha, haaa, haaa, haaaa
Haaa, heart be still

I've Been To Hell And Back
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 3:04 (the song itself is 2:50 the rest is the segue)
This track segues into 'The Day The Talkies Came'; on 'Pre-Ordained', the track fades out slightly earlier to avoid the segue.
Lyrics:
Last night I dreamed of a desert
I dreamed of the white shifting sand
I dreamed of the eagle that swooped
And snatched the snake from my hand

I was amazed the Scorpio
Two parts of me had gone
Where is this, where am I?
Tell me please

Tell all the boys I'm back in the city
Tell all the boys I'm back in town
I've been to hell and back
I've been to hell and back
Tell all the boys I'm back in the city
I've been to hell and back, I'm back, I'm back

I stood twixt fire and water
Moon bird balanced in the wind
The sun God has given me a new life
Come on lets begin

Tell all the boys I'm back in the city
Tell all the boys I'm back in town
I've been to hell and back
I've been to hell and back
Tell all the boys I'm back in the city
I've been to hell and back, I'm back, I'm back

Tell all the boys I'm back in the city
Tell all the boys I'm back in town
I've been to hell and back
I've been to hell and back
Tell all the boys I'm back in the city
Tell all the boys I'm back in town
I've been to hell and back
I've been to hell and back

(Till all the boys I'm back in the city) tell all the boys
(Till all the boys I'm back in town) I'm back
(Hell and back) I'm back
(Hell and back) tell the boys
(Tell all the boys I'm back in the city) I'm back in town
(Tell all the boys I'm back in town) I.......
(Hell and back)
(Hell and back)
(Tell all the boys I'm back in the city) tell them, I'm back, I'm back, tell them
(Tell all the boys I'm back in town) yeah, I'm back
(Hell and back)
(Hell and back)

Jackie
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 3:15
Lyrics:
And if one day I should become
A singer with a Spanish bum
Who sings for women of great virtue
I'd sing to them with a guitar
I'd borrowed from a coffee bar
Well, what you don't know doesn't hurt you

My name would be Antonio, and all my bridges I would burn
And when I gave them some big note
I'd expect something in return

I'd have to get drunk every night
And talk about virility
With some old grandmother
Who might be decked out like a Christmas tree

And though pink elephants I'd see
Though I'd be drunk as I could be
Still I would sing my song to me
About the time they called me Jackie

If I could be for only an hour
If I could be for an hour everyday
If I could be for one little hour
Too cute in a stupid ass way

And if I joined the social world
Became procurer of young girls
And I would have my own bodellos
My record would be number one
And I'd sell records by the ton
All sung by many other fellows

My name would then be Handsome Jack
And I'd sell boats of opium
Whisky that came from Twickenham
Authentic queers and bony virgins

If I had banks on every finger
A finger in every country
And all the countries ruled by me
Then I know I'd want to be

Locked up inside my opium den
Surrounded by some Chinamen
I'd sing the song I sang of then
About the time they called me Jackie

If I could be for only an hour
If I could be for an hour everyday
If I could be for one little hour
Too cute in a stupid ass way

Now tell me wouldn't it be nice
That if one day in paradise
I'd sing for all the ladies up there
And they would sing along with me
We'd be so happy there to be
'Cos down below is really nowhere

And if my name were Juniper
Then I would know where I was going
Then I'd become all knowing
And my beard so very long and flowing

If I became deaf, dumb and blind
Because I hated all mankind
I'd broke my heart to make things right
I'd know that every single night

When my angelic work was through
The angels and the devil too
Would sing my childhood song to me
About the time they called me Jackie

If I could be for only an hour
If I could be for an hour everyday
If I could be for one stinking hour
Too cute in a stupid ass way
All right

Ragtime Piano Joe
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 3:42
Lyrics:
The man who made his name in the moving picture show
Was the man whose face we saw, but his voice we didn't know
The only things we heard him say were on cards we read too slow
The man who made them speak was Ragtime Piano Joe

It was the only life that he knew
Ragtime Piano Joe
It was the only thing he could do
Ragtime Piano Joe
And when the hero walked in the door
Or Charlie Chaplin fell through the floor
Who was it made the show
Ragtime Piano Joe

Al Jolson mooned and crooned and talking pictures came to town
Hoagy Carmichael played a tune, it really brought Joe down
And Busby Berkeley clinched the deal and all the flicks had sound
Joe took his life one night, they say that he was drowned

It was the only life that he knew
Ragtime Piano Joe
It was the only thing he could do
Ragtime Piano Joe
And when the hero walked in the door
Or Charlie Chaplin fell through the floor
Who was it made the show
Ragtime Piano Joe

(La, la, la, la, la repeated many times)
And when the hero walked in the door
Or Charlie Chaplin fell through the floor
Who was it, who was it
Ragtime Piano Joe

If late at night into the movie house you go
Sit at the back, stay out of sight, you can still hear Ragtime Joe
When the crowds have gone
The old time songs, the ones we used to know
Can still be heard, but very faint
It's the ghost of poor old Joe

It was the only life that he knew
Ragtime Piano Joe
It was the only thing he could do
Ragtime Piano Joe
And when the hero walked in the door
Or Charlie Chaplin fell through the floor
Who was it made the show
Ragtime Piano Joe

It was the only life that he knew
Ragtime Piano Joe
It was the only thing he could do
Ragtime Piano Joe
And when the hero walked in the door
Or Charlie Chaplin fell through the floor
Who was it, who was it
Ragtime Piano Joe

Tear Down The Walls
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 4:57
This track doesn't appear on the 'This One's On Me' LP with the other tracks; I am unsure where the track comes from.
Lyrics:
Lay down, beside me
Forget, not forget
Ooh, all of the love I bring
Please don't forget
Never

Though
It's a sad affair
Believe me
It's so hard to bare
Tear down the walls, love
Tear down the walls, love, oh
Ooh, please don't forget
Tear down the walls

Take me as I am
Please try to understand
Oh, try, ooh

Don't drive me to dispair
With your cheating when I'm not there
Maybe, maybe I'll take you, yes I'll take you
I'll break you, and make you, mine

Tear down the walls, love
Tear down the walls, love
Tear down the walls, love
Tear down the walls, love, oh
Open up your heart
Open up your heart
Tear down the walls

Tear down the walls, love
Tear down the walls, love
Tear down the walls, love
Tear down the walls, love
Tear down the walls

The Annual Penguin Show
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 4:40
Lyrics:
Friday night, everybody dresses up in black and white
Look at the crowd, no jeans allowed
A glass of wine, and everybody's having such a good time
Or so they say, so give it away tonight, all right

The orchestra play, the penguins sway
The movement they make meant nothing at all
Once in a while, they let out a smile
In single file, they were having a ball
Forty seven penguins, all in a row
At the annual penguin show

A waiter stands, a creature of devotion to his fellow man
Shiny black hair, it's so rude to stare
All the bands will play, they won't reform their uniforms of yesterday
All black and white it's gotta be right tonight, all right

The orchestra play, the penguins sway
The movement they make meant nothing at all
Once in a while, they let out a smile
In single file, they were having a ball
Forty seven penguins, all in a row
At the annual penguin show

It wouldn't be right tonight to meet the people from the streets and let them in
You never know just where they've been
You've really got to chose, you mustn't lose, so don't refuse
Your MBE and send it back and call it crap
You've got to be as straight as elastic, oh, oh, oh, oh
You've got to be as natural as plastic, hey, hey

The orchestra play, the penguins sway
The movement they make meant nothing at all
Once in a while, they let out a smile
In single file, they were having a ball
Forty seven penguins, all in a row
At the annual penguin show

A penguin going, penguins are such lovely creatures
With shiny hair, and silky features
A wobble here, minding there
They take their time, but they don't care
But it's so sad to fence them in
To face the public, smile and win
Once a year, please, please, let them come
To the annual penguin show

With lots of fishy things to eat
To tempt the pallette
Then the feet and after lunch
A chocolate biscuit made specially for 'em, innit

Forty seven penguins, all in a row
At the annual penguin show, no no
At the annual penguin show, one more time
At the annual penguin show

Yeah, yeah, want to bribe me with a story then

The Day The Talkies Came
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 4:45.
This track segues from 'I've Been To Hell And Back'; on 'Pre-Ordained', this track includes 15 seconds or so of the segue.
Lyrics:
You could laugh till you cried
You could lose yourself a while in the silent screen
You'd forget where you'd been, what you'd seen
You were part of the silver screen
All the world just passed you by
You just sat there starry eyed

As the lady of the keys
Added atmosphere with ease by her expertise
And the hero got his man
While the Keystone cops were still trying to find the gang
All the world just passed you by
You just sat there starry eyed

Ba-ba-da-ba-dum
Ba-ba-da-ba-dum

Then came the day when those
Talking pictures came to town
This innovation had people talking
For miles around

They had forgotten the thrills they had seen
When men like Chaplin had come to the screen
Gone was the silence that once was a dream
The day the talkies came to town
The day the talkies came to town
The day the talkies came to town

You could laugh till you cried
You could lose yourself a while in the silent screen
You'd forget where you'd been, what you'd seen
You were part of the silver screen
All the world just passed you by
You just sat there starry eyed

Ba-ba-da-ba-dum
Ba-ba-da-ba-dum
Ba-ba-da-ba-dum
Then came the day when those
Talking pictures came to town
This innovation had people talking
For miles around

They had forgotten the thrills they had seen
When men like Chaplin had come to the screen
Gone was the silence that once was a dream
The day the talkies came to town
The day the talkies came to town
The day the talkies came to town

The Saddest Clown
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 4:19
Lyrics:
Children hurry for the door
While mothers pay the man what he's asking for
People come to see the clown
The finest circus ever seen has come to town
He makes them laugh, he makes them sing
To them this man they've waited for is everything
But underneath those fancy clothes and painted smiles there is a frown
The saddest clown has come to town

It all began some years ago
He stopped some children on his way to say 'hello'
A mother ran out screaming at the strange man
Shouting 'let them go'
And yet the night before, he made them laugh and sing
To them this man was everything
It made him very sad and so afraid, he realised
Without his guise he was anyone

Though that day has gone
The memory lingers on
Though his smile has gone
His fooling still goes on
The unhappy clown

Mothers hurry for the door
While children jam their heads calling out for more
They all want to meet the clown
The finest clown that they have ever seen in town
He made them laugh, he made them sing
To them this man they'd come to see was everything
But underneath those painted smiles, they couldn't see there was a frown
The saddest clown has come to town

Though that day has gone
The memory lingers on
Though his smile has gone
His fooling still goes on, and on, and on
The unhappy clown

Vamp
Peter Straker, 1978. Produced by Freddie Mercury. Length 5:21
Lyrics:
In a long black gown that blows in the wake
Of the shimmering lady who
There's a man to take the enormous lashes
That drift from her eyes a blue
A cigarette holder always in place
Framing the untouched, timeless face
Of the lady with the eyes
Of the lady with the sighs

When she dances
And it drags there
Feeling classy

She's a vamp burning camp
For the people to stand for
Age cannot hamper
Drenched in champers

The shaded background in Vienna where she suffered, oh she, ooh
So the mocking eyes and the throwaway sighs
Hold smouldering memories too
The graceful gilde as she pass the air
The dancing din of her frozen stare
Oh, the lady with the eyes
Oh, the lady with the sighs

Then she sings
The smoke rings
The darlings

She's a vamp burning camp
For the people to stand for
Age cannot hamper
Drenched in champers

Legend, myth, and mystery
She comprises of all three
Clouded in her image untouchable

Venturing out always to be
What the minds eye thinks is she
Shrouded in her vales, a sea unscrutable to such as we

She wove a spell to all who came
With a power of a lady likes to fix a glove of fear
And the eyes are glazed from a thousand wars
All the crystals here are slowly burned
Oh, the lady with the eyes
Oh, the lady with the sighs

And she flows
As she goes
Faded rose

She's a
Ooh

Glitter, touch her, touch her, no
She's a vamp
She's a vamp, ahh
She's a vamp
She's a vamp
She's a vamp

Victory
Michael Jackson, 1983. Freddie Mercury provides joint lead vocals and possibly piano.
This track began as a Queen track, presumably intended for 'Hot Space', but was not completed. However, it was then worked on by Freddie and Michael Jackson in 1983, but this in turn remains unreleased, although it was reportedly due to be released in 2002 but then cancelled. The track may then have been re-recorded by The Jacksons for their 1984 album of the same name, although I cannot confirm this.

State Of Shock
Michael Jackson, 1983. Features Freddie Mercury on vocals. Length 4:43.
The original duet of this track remains unreleased, although it was due to be released officially in 2002, but the release was cancelled. However, the track was re-recorded by The Jacksons for their 1984 album 'Victory', and reached #14 in 1984. A live performance of the track, featuring Mick Jagger and Tina Turner, can be found on the 'Live Aid' DVD. However the lyrics below refer to the unreleased duet version.

The original version remains unreleased, but it was re-recorded by Freddie Mercury for
Mr Bad Guy.
Available Versions:

here for lyrics)
Lyrics:
(Lyrics in Black are sung by Freddie and Michael; lyrics in Red are sung by Freddie; lyrics in Blue are sung by Michael Jackson)
There must be more to life than this
There must be more to life than this
How do we cope in a world without love
Mending all those broken hearts
And tending to those crying faces

There must be more to life than living
A better way for us to survive
Why should it be just a case of black or white
There must be more to life than this

Why is this world so full of hate
People dying everywhere
And we destroy what we create
People fighting for their human rights
But we just go on saying c'est la vie
So this is life

There must be more to life than killing
There must be more than meets the eye
What good is life, if in the end we all must die
There must be more to life than this

There must be more to life than killing
There must be more to life than this
I live in hope for a world filled with love
Then we can all just live in peace

There must be more to life, much more to life
There must be more to life, more to life than this

Rehearsal Lyrics: (lyrics are sung by Michael Jackson but Freddie speaks the dialogue in red)
There must be more to life than this
There must be more to life than this
How do we cope in a world without love
Mending all those broken hearts
And tending to those crying faces

There must be more to life than killing
(Freddie: that’s right )
A better way for us to survive (Freddie: adlib)
(Ad-libbed) in a world with our children
There must be more to life than this

Why is this world so full of hate
People dying everywhere
And we destroy what we create
People fighting for their human rights
But we’ll just go on saying c'est la vie
So this is life

There must be more to life than killing
There must be more than meets the eye
I live in hope for a world filled with love
Then we can all just live in peace

There must be more to life, much more to life
There must be more to life, more to life than this

Written and Arranged by Freddie Mercury and Billy Squier.
'Work In Progress' version available in the Freddie Mercury - Solo 10CD/2DVD Boxed Set

Lyrics:
I've been faking my past
But now I know my connection is coming through, yeah
I put my ass on the line, hey
Hey baby, so what's new
I told you

Don't look now, I'm inching up behind

Don't look now, in the creases of your mind
Don't stop now, we're moving much to fast
Gonna find out where you draw the line
Here she comes now, so divine (hey come on, come on, come on, she's so relaxed baby)

She's a lady with a tenor sax, hey
Cool baby drives a mean Cadillac
She's a lady with a tenor sax, yeah
You're gonna meet her on her own level, don't look back
Don't look back, don't look back
'Cos the lady's got a tenor sax

She jives, she's so bad
She's a tango with a big, big business sense
She had it
Oh, oh, dee la dum bum bay oh
Bah, ba-dee, dum
Um bum da bee bum

Don't walk now, you'll slip into the past
Don't walk now, can nothin' ever last
Don't look now, the chips are gonna fall
Sooner or later you're gonna be mine

Here she comes now, oh, yeah, yeah
She's a lady with a tenor sax, yeah
She's a lady with a tenor sax
She's a lady with a tenor sax, yeah
She's a lady with a tenor sax
Wait til the next time

Don't walk now, you'll slip into the past
Don't walk now, can nothin' ever last
Don't look now, the chips are gonna fall
Sooner or later you're gonna be mine

Here she comes now, oh, yeah, yeah
She's a lady with a tenor sax, yeah
She's a lady with a tenor sax

She's a lady with a tenor sax
A soul baby cuts a groove on her back
Lady with a tenor sax
She looks, she loves, she walks into the fire
There's a lady with a tenor sax
Fight it over

Lady with a tenor sax
She's snide, she cried, she begged you'd come alive
Lady with a tenor sax
Yeah, yeah

Lady with a tenor sax

Love is the hero
Soldier forever
Life below zero
Never say never
Never say never
Never say never, say never

There is a course in life, so all the teachers say
It calls you day and night, it takes your thoughts away
Under a frozen light, you face a long crusade
Where there's a cause you fight, where there's a cost you pay

Find an empty heart, you feel the passion play
It's when reactions start that you can look away
There's no wrong or right, there's just your point of view
And when you face the light then it will come to you

Love is the hero, soldier forever
Life below zero, never say never
Love is the hero, yeah

There is no sacrifice, there is no dead end street
There is no sound advice, only the watch you keep (never say never)
With every step you take, through every room of fear
With every move you make the song will pull you near

Turn your world around and it will come your way
Through your cold-chill nights and your hard earned days
When you face the light it may be hard to do
But when it's all too right then it will come to you

Love is the hero, soldier forever
Love is the hero, live to remember

No path is too steep, no distance too wide
No question too deep, no force can divide
Your fortune you seek, the road will unwind
You're coming to me, to search is to find
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)

And when you start to fall into that frozen space
And when you reach the wall and there's no sunny place
And when it all comes down you make it anyhow
Any way

Love is the hero, soldier forever
Life below zero, never say never, never, never
Love is the hero, love is the hero, yeah
March on forever
Love is the hero, yeah, yeah, live to remember, wooh, yeah
Love is the hero, love is the hero
Love is forever, yeah, yeah, yeah
Love is the hero, never say never, never

Ooh, yeah
Oooh
Love is the hero
Never
Love is the hero
