The '46664' Project

The '46664' project was conceived by Nelson Mandela as a platform to raise awareness of the AIDS virus and raise funds to help its prevention. '46664' was Nelson Mandela's prison number whilst in prison on Robben Island. The project brought together many musicians, including Queen, Dave Stewart, Bono and Bob Geldof, as well as some modern pop stars and African musicians.

This page includes details all of the tracks officially released, either as downloads or those performed at the 46664 concert held at the Green Point Stadium, Cape Town, South Africa, on 29 November 2003, and subsequently released in 2004 on CD and DVD. The show was broadcast live to over two billion people worldwide via TV, Radio and the Internet.

46664 - The Call
Written and recorded by Queen (and possibly others). Length 4:36 approx.
The studio version of this track has not been officially released, yet.
The live version is basically the first half of the track, the studio version then continues with an orchestral section, another verse and chorus, then an instrumental outro.

There seem to be at least two versions of this track available. The first (Mix 1) is in relatively poor quality and was played on Capitol Radio in the UK in 2003. MP3's of this track omit some of the intro reducing the time to 4:26. The second version (Mix 2), is available in near-studio quality, and has a single lyric change at the start of the track (this lyric was also sung on the live performance). There are also some differences in the volumes especially during the quieter sections of the track, there may also be some other changes, but the sound quality makes it hard to compare.
