Return To The Forbidden Planet
'Return To The Forbidden Planet' is a musical
which is based on the 1956 film 'Forbidden Planet', considered to
be one of the greatest sci-fi films of the decade. In turn, the
film is loosely based on 'The Tempest' by William Shakespeare.
The musical was first performed in the mid 1980's, but reworked
into it's current form in 1989. The musical features a number of
1950's and 1960's rock and roll tracks, performed by a live band.
The show also features a narrator, called Dr Rockit, who appears
via a videoscreen. For the original runs, this role was performed
by Sir Patrick Moore.
The musical reopened in March 2006, touring various theatres in
the UK, with the narrator played by Brian May, who filmed the
parts at his home on 8 February 2006. It again toured between
January and May 2015, to mark it's 25th anniversary, with Brian
again appearing, presumably using the same original footage.
