Anita Dobson
Talking Of Love
This page includes full details of the 11 tracks that Brian has collaborated with Anita Dobson on.
Anita's first single release was 'Anyone Can Fall In Love', which is based around the theme tune to 'Eastenders'. The single does not feature Brian at all, and was released approximately one year before the album, reaching number 4 in the charts.
The album 'Talking Of Love' was released in 1988 and contains nine tracks. Brian produced and sings backing vocals on eight of them, plays guitar on six, and wrote three. Two of the singles from the album contained reworked versions of the A-sides ('Sweet Talkin' and 'Silly Christmas'), and Brian produced, played guitar and sang backing vocals on these too. These two tracks are credited as written by Brian and Anita, as Brian wrote the original and Anita evidently wrote the additional vocals. The final song to feature Brian, 'In One Of My Weaker Moments', was taken from the musical 'Budgie' and features Brian on guitar.

Don't Fall In
Love With Anybody Else
Written by Chris Thompson and
Anne Dudley. Length 4:22
Brian played guitar, produced, and provided backing vocals
Lyrics:
I'll bet the neon lights are shining
For you somewhere out in the dark
Nobody sees my eyes are crying
It's a private show but I'm playing the part
You're the one I dream about
In the night and when the stars come out
You're the sunshine
You make my world for me
Don't fall in love with anybody else
'Cos anyday you'll find out for yourself
Love is real
And I believe it's true
I couldn't fall in love with anyone but you
I try to build my world around you
I believe in you, don't give up the fight
I'm not the only one who wants you
I wonder who you're holding tonight
By the phone that never rings
I'm alone with the pain you bring
You're the heartache
You're tearing my world apart
Don't fall in love with anybody else
'Cos anyday you'll find out for yourself
Love is real
And I believe it's true
I couldn't fall in love with anyone but you
You're the wild one
You make my world for me
Don't fall in love with anybody else
'Cos anyday you'll find out for yourself
Love is real
And I believe it's true
I couldn't fall in love with anyone but you
Don't fall in love with anybody else
'Cos anyday you're gonna find out for yourself
Love is real
I do believe it's true
I couldn't fall in love with anyone but you
Don't fall in love with anybody else
Funny Old Life
Ain't It
Written by Brian May and Anita
Dobson. Length 4:32
Brian co-wrote the track with Anita, produced, and provided
backing vocals
This track is a sort of 'rap' by Anita, speaking with a heavy
cockney accent
Also available as the B-side to 'To Know Him Is To Love Him'
Lyrics:
Life's a bitch, my mum's a witch
My hamster died last night
My brother's got flu
'Says he got it from you
Funny old life ain't it
It's a funny old life
A funny old life
A funny life ain't it
It's a funny old life
A funny old life
A funny life ain't it
Hello, I'm glad you came round
I've been sitting here waiting for you for hours
Where've you been?
Honestly, some people have got no sense of timing
And don't say nothin' horrible about my song
'Cos I'm gonna sing you another verse
So just wait till you've heard it, alright?
Ready
Don't school dinners stink
And I'd rather have a drink
And my dad's bent, brown and bitter
Maggots rule
Bum, bum school
Funny old life ain't it
It's a funny old life
It's a funny old life
It's a funny life ain't it
It's a funny old life
A funny old life
A funny life ain't it
What do you reckon? Oh, don't say rubbish
Everybody says that, it's a really old verse
This is really important to me, I want to be a writer when I grow
up
And don't tell me I'm gonna grow up
Anyway, this is really good
It's for my school play, and I'm gonna do it at Christmas
My schoolteacher says she thinks I've got artistic flair - ey?
I said artistic flair, cloth ears
Listen, I'll do you another verse
What do you think, alright?
I try to keep in my mum's good books
But I spilt it on her dress
I didn't know where the things should go
But I don't half like making a mess
'Cos life is really, really, really, terrible
It's a funny old life
Funny old life
Funny life ain't it
It's a funny old life
Funny old life
Funny life ain't it
I think it's good, considering it's my first attempt
My teacher says, if I get through, you know, the auditions
'Cos I'm gonna perform it, you know, at high school
And if it is good, then she's gonna let me do it for real
She says I'll have to have a really nice dress
And my mum's gonna have to cough up a lot of money
And I'm gonna have to do my own make up
That's a bit of a problem, really
'Cos I was watching my mum doing it the other day
You know, she's got these things that she sticks on her eyes
I think they call them false eyelashes
Women have false everything, don't they
My mum's got a false bra, false hairpiece, false eyelashes, false
nails
Honestly, I reckon if she lost them all, my mum wouldn't be there
at all
One of her eyelashes, the other day, I never told her, but
She dropped it down the side of the table
And I thought it was my pet spider
Anyway, my dad came in and he said 'what are you doing on the
floor, girl'
I said dad, I've dropped my spider and mum's eyelashes have gone
on the floor
And I don't know which one's which
Anyway, cut a long story short, my dad stood on both of 'em
So my spider's dead now
But my mum's eyelashes don't half look funny on her eyes
Anyway, I'll do you another verse
'Cos we're supposed to be working
This is my sort of fairly adventurous verse
I saw this film and it weren't half good
All goodies riding about
They kept making noises, grunting noises
And it sounded really, really, really terrible
Funny old life
Funny old life
Funny old life ain't it
It's a funny old life
Funny old life
Funny old life ain't it
Do you wanna join in?
'Cos sometimes when you're feeling really miserable
If you have a little chant to yourself
It does make you feel better, don't it?
I'm gonna get the whole school to do it
The choir and the scout's group
I've already got all my mates to come round
But they just keep taking the michael out of me
Have a go, with me, after three
Three
No wait a minute
After three - one - two - three - go
It's a funny old life
Funny old life
Funny life ain't it
It's a funny old life
Funny old life
Funny old life ain't it
My mum and dad have had a row
They're just not speaking again
When I grow up I think I'm just
Gonna go and live at the end of my garden
All on my own
You know what?
Some people - I know this bloke
He lives in a cave, I think he's called a hermit
Anyway, he got so fed up of everybody being horrible to him
He just said 'I'm going to the garden to eat worms'

Lyrics:
(the single version loses the lyrics in blue)
I sit alone by the
fireside
And watch the old year passing by
Down the street they're singing party songs
You know Christmas always makes me cry
I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas
Maybe my dreams will come true
I dream of Christmas
A merry Christmas
I dream of Christmas and you
And so tonight my thoughts are reaching out
Though you're a million miles away
My dream is strong enough to see me through
Our love's forever and a day
I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas
Maybe my dreams will come true
I dream of Christmas
A merry Christmas
I dream of Christmas and you
And once again the world is filled with joy
I want to share it far and wide
Your spirit fills the air and comforts me
I know you're always by my side
I dream of
Christmas
I dream of Christmas
Maybe my dreams will come true
I dream of Christmas
A merry Christmas
I dream of Christmas and you
I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas
Maybe my dreams will come true
I dream of Christmas
A merry Christmas
I dream of Christmas and you
I dream of Christmas and you
I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas

Lyrics:
All the good times that we had
I could count on one hand
People say that I'm crazy
People don't understand
I keep saying I'll leave him
I almost will but then
Everyday I time I head the door
I think it through again
In one of my weaker moments
I'll let the moment go
I'll never change him
Why I stay here I don't know
In one of my weaker moments
I'll let the moment die
Seems when you love someone
You can't say goodbye
It's not how I imagined
Waiting up half the night
How long can you keep hoping
We're gonna get it right
When I think of the future
I wanna fly away
Now's the time, yes I could go now
That's what I always say
In one of my weaker moments
I'll let the moment go
I'll never change him
Why I stay here I don't know
In one of my weaker moments
I'll let the moment die
Seems when you love someone
You can never say goodbye
In one of my weaker moments
I say there's nothing wrong
I hide the feelings
I've been feeling for too long
In one of my weaker moments
I say let's wait and see
For I know if I go
He won't come running after me
Let Me In (Your
Heart Again)
Written by Brian May. Length
3:52
Brian wrote the track, produced, played guitar and provided
backing vocals
Lyrics:
When people talk of love,
I'll join in conversation
I'll say I feel just fine, happy with my situation
But when I look away, people know my mind is spinning
To where I once belonged, I'll dream I'm in your heart again
Let me in
Let me in your heart again
When love has let you down, I'll be your consolation
We'll talk and talk our lives, through every complication
But when you went away, you took my heart and soul away with you
But now I stand alone and dream I'm in your heart again
Let me in
Let me in
Let me in your heart again
So many nights we meet, in my imagination
And everywhere I turn, you're still my inspiration
Then yesterday you came, and turned my whole world upside down
again
You won't hear me complaining, I'm back inside your heart again
You let me in
You let me in
You let me in your heart again
Oooh, you let me in your heart again
Silly Christmas
Written by Brian May and Anita
Dobson. Time 5:55
Brian co-wrote the track with Anita, produced, played guitar and
provided backing vocals
Only available on the 'I Dream Of Christmas' single.
This track is the same as 'I Dream Of Christmas', but with Anita
singing the song as a child, and with new lyrics. There are party
noises throughout the song, and many of the chorus lyrics are
sung by the party group.
Lyrics:
Ha, ha
I sit alone by the fireside, it's hot, ha
And watch the old year passing by, it's gone now
Down the street they're singing party songs, and they never
invite me, they stink
Christmas always makes me cry
I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas
Maybe my dreams will come true
I dream of Christmas
A merry Christmas
I dream of Christmas and you
And so tonight my thoughts are reaching out
Though you're a million miles away, and you never come to visit
me
My dream is strong enough to see me through, I'm in the choir at
school
Our love's forever and a day and a million miles
I dream of Christmas, I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas, do you like Christmas
Maybe my dreams will come true, they might come true, if I'm good
I dream of Christmas
A merry Christmas
I dream of Christmas and Santa Claus and you and mummy and daddy
and my friends and everybody in the whole wide world
My brother he's written a letter to Santa Claus
And he says that if he don't get his bike this year
He's never speaking to him again
And he's gonna go round the estate
And he's gonna let down everybody's tyres on all their bikes
So that no-one can ride at all, he's mean ain't he?
But I like him - he's twelve and a half
Because I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas
Maybe my dream will come true
I dream of Christmas
I dream of Christmas
Maybe my dreams will come true
Sing with me now
I dream of Christmas, and Easter as well
I dream of Christmas, 'cos I like chocolate, do you?
Maybe my dreams will come true, it makes me sick as a dog
But I like Christmas better, because you get more presents at
Christmas (I dream of Christmas)
Don't you, than you do at Easter (a merry Christmas)
More big ones, then you can swap them with the girl next door (I
dream of Christmas and you), it's a good game isn't it
I dream of Christmas and you
I like swapping things with my girl friend
I asked her if she wanted to swap her dress once, and she said
no, 'cos she never had any knickers on
I'm getting fed up now, I think I wanna go to the toilet
Oh, by the way, do you know Santa Claus's address?
'Cos when my brother sent a letter, my dad found it on the mat
the next morning saying it never even got there
Honestly - the postmen round here, they're really, really
terrible
So post it yourself, ay, or better still, why don't you take it,
then give it to him
My mum says that to my dad, why don't you give it to him?
I think she's being dirty
Bye then, I 'spose I better go
Come round my house again
I think you're ever so nice
What's your name, go on, tell me
I better go, my mum's looking for me and I ain't done my homework
yet
I got an apple in my bag, do you want it?
It's got a maggot in it, but I'm trying to grow maggots
'Cos this bloke at school, he says that if you get a lot of
maggots and put them together they breed
And they make a lot of other maggots
And then it gets all gunky and sticky
And they all, if you give it to your mum and stick 'em in her
hands, she screams
I like doing things like that, I'd 'spect it's 'cos of my
brother, really
'Cos he's horrible, he's got spots 'un all
He picks 'em - it's nasty, isn't it, they go all over his face
He had chicken pox last time, and they all went into scabs
I saw him eating one once
It made me ever so sick, and my mum hit him
She's always hitting him
She says he's a right old so and so, he is and all
He really, really is terrible
Do you know what he did the other day? Shall I tell you?
We've got this hamster see
And he took it out of the cage in his hands
Merry Christmas everybody
Merry Christmas
Sweet Talkin'
Written by Brian May and Anita
Dobson. Length 4:28
Brian co-wrote the track with Anita, produced, played guitar and
provided backing vocals
Only available on the 'Talking Of Love' single.
This track is very similar to 'Talking Of Love' (Extended

Lyrics:
Talkin'
Hi, it's me, where you been?
I've been waiting, but you never turned up
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to sit here - and wait
Could you tell me a story, go on, talk to me, please
Talk to me, I'm lonely, come on
Please, come on, I'll tell you a story, only I don't know any
stories
What's your name? I'll tell you mine
Come on, talk to me, please talk to me
I want someone to talk to me
Oh, I'll make you laugh
Oh, I'll make you cry
I'll make you feel good
I'll keep on talking, all night if you like
Come on, tell me, and I'll tell you
That's all there is
Talk to me, talk to me, now, now
Come on, come on
That's better
Baby I know where this road leads, but I'm walking
Walking
Baby I know what my poor heart needs
But I'm talking
You know I'm talking of love
I should know better
What am I waiting for
If I lose my heart I'll only have myself to blame
But if you leave me now (if you leave me now)
You know I'll never know how to fall in love again
Baby I know where this road leads, but I'm walking
Walking down it
Baby I know what my poor heart needs, but I'm talking
You know I'm talking of love
You know I'm talking of love
You're talking business
We're talking business
And I need you so
Forget your business
None of your business
I get the feeling you know what I'm talking about
Baby I know where this road leads, but I'm walking
Walking down it anyway
Baby I know what my poor heart needs
But I'm talking
You know I'm talking of love
Baby I know where this road leads, but I'm talking
Talking
I love you, I just love you
That's what it's all about
You know we're talking of love

Lyrics: (Single version loses those

Baby I
know where this road leads, but I'm walking
Walking
Baby I know what my poor heart needs
But I'm talking
Talking
I should know better
I've seen it all before
As a woman I guess I've always been my own woman
I should be leaving
I should have the sense to say
Such a pleasant evening, thank you
See you again someday
But then my problem shows
I guess I'd like to know how it might really feel
To be alone with you
Baby I know where this road leads, but I'm walking
Walking
Baby I know what my poor heart needs
But I'm talking
You know I'm talking of love
I should know better
What am I waiting for
If I lose my heart I'll only have myself to blame
But if you leave me now (if you leave me now)
You know I'll never know how to fall in love again
Baby I know where this road leads, but I'm walking
Walking down it
Baby I know what my poor heart needs, but I'm talking
You know I'm talking of love
You know I'm talking of love
You're talking business
We're talking business
And I need you so
Forget your business
None of your business
I get the feeling you know what I'm talking about
Baby I know where this road leads, but I'm walking
Walking down it anyway
Baby I know what my poor heart needs
But I'm talking
You know I'm talking of love
Baby I know where this road leads, but I'm talking
Talking
You know we're talking of love
The Last Time
I Made Love
Written by Barry Mann, Cynthia
Weil and Jeff Barry. Length 2:59
Brian produced, played guitar, and provided backing vocals
Lyrics:
The first time I made love
It wasn't love at all
Didn't know what to feel
It didn't seem real
That's all I can recall
I thought that's all love is
Now I know so much more
Now I know I've never
Really made love before
I'll tell you when I leave
The last time I made love
I made it with you
The first time we made love
It was all that it could be
Your soul and mine
So swivelled in time
Blended perfectly
The magic that we knew
Is something that lives on
Refusing to die
Why try to believe it's gone
One truth is always true
The last time I made love
I made it with you
Now lovers come and go
Oooh, people get so sad so easily
But through it all I've seen
That no matter what I do
When there's someone new
The last time I made love
I made it with you
Ooooh
To Know Him Is
To Love Him
Written by Phil Spector.
Length 3:09
Brian played guitar, produced and provided backing vocals
Released as a single on 22 October 1988, b/w 'Funny Old Life
Ain't It', but failed to chart.
Lyrics:
To know, know, know him
Is to love, love, love him
Just to see him smile
Makes my life worthwhile
To know, know, know him
Is to love, love, love him
And I do
I'll be good to him
I'll bring love to him
Everyone says there'll come a day
I'll walk alongside of him
To know, know, know him
Is to love, love, love him
And I do
Why can't he see?
How blind can he be?
Someday he'll see
That he was meant for me, oh, oh
To know, know, know him
Is to love, love, love him
Just to see him smile
Makes my life worthwhile
To know, know, know him
Is to love, love, love him
And I do
Yes I do
To know, know, know him
Is to love, love, love him
Just to see him smile
Makes my life worthwhile
To know, know, know him
Is to love, love, love him
And I do
Yes I do
Yes I do
Yes I do
You Can't Stay
The Night
Written by Musker and Bugatti.
Length 4:45
Brian produced and provided backing vocals
Lyrics:
You can't stay the night
You know I called you and said come on over
Well I just needed some company
I only wanted to cry on your shoulder
That don't mean you can stay with me
'Cos I'm just not ready
To go through all that again
Maybe someday I'll want you to love me
But I'll tell you where and when
You can't stay the night, no, no, no
This is no way to start a new love affair
You can't stay the night, no, no, no
When I'm good and ready, babe
You know I'll be there
No you can't, you can't, you can't
You can't stay the night
I'm only human it's a new situation
I'm attracted that's for sure
Don't make me feel I've got to yield to temptation
Don't you think I'm worth waiting for
Things will work out better
If you'll just get in your car and go
And if I feel any different tomorrow
Baby, you'll be the first to know
You can't stay the night, no, no, no
This is no way to start a new love affair
You can't stay the night
When I'm good and ready babe
You know I'll be there
No you can't, no you can't, no you can't
You can't stay the night
You can't stay the night
So put your kings in your conflict (you can't stay the night)
And if there's fun there to learn (you can't stay the night)
Just to learn from the future
And I'll be the one to decide
When you can't stay the night
Oooh, you can't stay the night
No
Get in your car and go
Oooh, you can't stay the night
No
I said no
Go
You can't stay the night
Oh, I said no
You can't stay the night
Oooh, you can't stay the night
Don't you know it's not right
No you can't, no you can't, no you can't
No you can't stay, I'm sorry
You can't stay the night
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
You can't stay the night
Oh, you can't stay the night
No
Just go home
Goodbye
The door's that way
That's the door to the bedroom
I said no
